Many People move to the Columbia River Gorge to surround themselves in the amazing variety and spectacular beauty of the natural wonders here. The western half of the Gorge is covered in evergreens and dramatic cliffs. Hikers come from far and wide to see the impressive waterfalls that cascade down the sides of the valley into the river. The Columbia River is one of the widest in the nation, which makes it great for fishing, boating, and water sports of all kinds. As you venture farther away from the river, you'll find breathtaking valleys studded here and there with small towns and state parks. Just a short drive up the Hood River Valley takes you right to the base of the majestic Mt. Hood. You could easily spend a lifetime exploring the mountains and valleys here in the Northwest, and that's exactly what we do!

Become a Part of Our Gorge Culture

Although the environment we live in is our biggest attraction, people also move to the Gorge to become a part of our rich culture. Most Northwest natives live in rural areas in order to farm or ranch in one of the many fertile valleys. There are also several towns along the Gorge, and here, particularly in Hood River, is where you'll find food and fun for all! 

Hood River is full of trendy bars, restaurants, and shops, which gives it an exciting nightlife. During the day, you can tour one of the many microbreweries or wineries. In the summer, the town hosts music, film, and hops festivals. It also happens to be known as the Windsurfing Capital of the World, and more recently, a popular place for kite surfers as well. Basically, whether you're into fishing or fashion, the Columbia River Gorge has a place for you!

Join a Tight-Knit Community

While the tourists keep small businesses in the area booming, it's the residents who keep their tight-knit community going strong year round. At the heart of each Gorge community, you'll find a great school with small class sizes and caring teachers. Schools are surrounded by safe neighborhoods with big lots and great river views.

If you don't plan on living in the country and farming, you can find most employment opportunities at the Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, Insitu, Sage Tech,  Dakine, ToFurky,  a brewery like Full Sail, or with one of the many small businesses around the area. Although tourist season can get busy on the waterfront, the communities are fairly quiet and the people are friendly.
