Slow Down for Life in Lyle

Lyle is just over an hour from Vancouver, Washington and 20 minutes from Dallesport, Washington.  It’s a very small town, but it boasts some of the largest homes in the area.  Although it’s small, it has much of what you need in order to avoid the commute to the big city.  This includes a grocery store, restaurant, gas station, hotel, and churches.  Because it’s right on Highway 14, it’s a popular stop for travelers, but despite this, the town is quiet and maintains its rustic appeal.

Indulge in Your Secret Pleasure

Because Lyle, due to bridge locations, is a bit of a drive from popular Hood River, it isn’t as well known for windsurfing.  However, locals know it well for its many great windsurfing beaches, like Doug’s Beach for example.  Also off the tourist maps are several boutique wineries like Cor Cellars, Klickitat Canyon Winery, and Memaloose.  As with most parts of the Gorge, there are also many quiet trails on which to enjoy the river’s beauty.

Find Your Path Nearby

Unfortunately, because the town is so small, there are not a lot of jobs in the area.  In fact, for both work and school, most families commute.  There is a middle and high school overlooking the town, and students from Lyle and other nearby burgs attend this school.  For grade school though, students are bussed to Dallesport 20 minutes away.  Likewise for job, many adults commute to Vancouver or The Dalles where there are more opportunities.  Despite the commute, people find they enjoy the quiet, laid back lifestyle the Lyle community offers.
